My Relationship with Music
I love music. What's not to love? Music has helped me overcome so many situations, connect me with a lot of great people, and have become my favorite topic to talk about. As a matter of fact, I’m listening to Pixies as I’m writing this blog post. Music is with me almost all of the time, sometimes certain songs make me feel like I'm falling deep into this state of pure bliss, nirvana if you will, and all it takes for me is listening to that music. For me, music is a HUGE part of my life, it has always been. I can’t quite put a finger on my favorite genre, it ranges from 80s inspired synth/retro-wave to punk rock to alternative. I have always dreamt of releasing music, I wanted the songs I make on my ukulele in my bedroom to be listened to and enjoyed by thousands of people.
I’m so happy that nowadays there are a lot of great local bands that are just as great as bands from other countries. The genre also varies from twee pop like Grrrl Gang, to surf rock like The Panturas, and punk like Tarrkam. Local bands inspired me so much to be in a band, so when my friend, Rima offered me to be the vocalist for her band, I obviously accepted. I had some songs in stock that I wanted to publish with my band and after trying it out from ukulele to a whole band set with drums and guitars and a bass, I felt like my vision is coming to life. I have always loved writing my own songs and finding the chords in the ukulele, I mostly get inspired when I’m sad (typical answer, but sadness really feeds creativity haha). There’s not much to my creative process, when I overthink and force myself to write a song, it usually doesn’t work out. Listening to other songs of different genres really help as well.
Anyways, now it has been a year and my band and I are so excited to release a single hopefully by the start of March. I have already recorded my song in a studio and it is going into the mixing process as of right now. We are meeting with the person that will do my band’s artwork for the single sometime this week and I couldn’t be more excited. So… crossing my fingers that all goes well. Wish me luck!!:)
The one is the picture is Lutfi, who's recording and mixing my band's single!
A song recommendation for today's blog post is Pixies- Wave of Mutilation. Pixies have made other great hits like 'Here Comes Your Man' and the famous song featured in the movie Fight Club , 'Where is My Mind'. This one is no exception to greatness, seeing Pixies live would be a dream.
