Ethics and Creativity
In the context of life itself, ethics are always involved and one should always act ethically. With that being said in my opinion, ethics in creative contexts are still valid and should always be kept in mind. There is a line that should not be crossed, even in creative processes which you are “free” to do and create anything you want. Yes, us humans have creative freedom, but when it is done unethically and morally wrong, that’s when it’s the problem. There aren’t any written rules of what is morally wrong and what's right, but it’s more of common sense that we learn and collect as years go by. In a creative process, there should be a thought process where you ask yourself is this right? Will it be offensive? Will it be controversial? Again, there is a line that shouldn’t be crossed, even when creating something meant to be eye opening or raise awareness that could stir up controversy naturally because of something that’s more taboo, out of the ordinary or unknown, ethics are something you have to keep in mind. In my opinion, there really isn’t any context where you shouldn’t be ethical. Creative freedom does not completely mean you are free to do anything you want because you aren't free to make something offensive, based of hatred for another race, gender, or religion. Why? because it's morally wrong, it can end up messing with public order or general welfare. With that being said, ethics also shouldn’t be something that makes you feel “caged” because being ethical should be something natural, it isn't something to really ponder on. For example, you don't ponder on wether you should open the door for an elderly or not, it's something you do because it's just right. Feel free to be creative, but don’t abuse that freedom to do things morally wrong.
